achan full movieRajasthan struck gold with Tyron Henderson…he’s terrific with the bat and ball (over 70 wickets in T20s). And then there’s Tait, who will rip apart many a batting order. But without Tanvir, Akmal, Younis Khan and perhaps Langer, they will find it difficult to find as much success again. They’ll just be hoping Watson fit in time, and Morne Morkel is available this year.
Chances - 3/5
Chennai look solid. Period. With Flintoff, Dhoni, Hayden, Hussey, Muralitharan, Ntini, Albie Morkel, Oram, Raina, Thushara available - they can beat any T20 side in the world.
Chances - 5/5
Deccan Chargers are strong, not just on paper. This time backed fully by Gilchrist (captain) and Darren Lehmann as coach, they’ll strive to do better. Afridi unavailable is a big blow, but they’ll manage I think. Bowling looks rather weak though, as RP Singh, Ojha, Edwards, Zoysa, Dwayne Smith don’t seem enough to stop rampaging top orders. Plus, they badly need new jerseys/colours!
Chances - 3/5
Kolkata will rely heavily on Gayle, McCullum and David Hussey. Ganguly is out of cricketing touch, Mendis is untested in T20 and Ponting’s got more on his plate than just IPL. This team, however, has the support, the oomph and surprise factor and that could be enough to take them to the final four.
Chances - 3.5/5
Delhi, in my opinion, should once again be one of the stronger contenders this year, alongside Bangalore and Chennai. Sehwag, Gambhir, Warner, deVilliers, Collingwood, Owais Shah, Dilshan - ideal T20 batsmen. The best batting options in one side, in this year’s IPL. Bowling-wise, backed by McGrath, Maharoof and Vettori, they’ll have Nehra and YoMahesh who shouldn’t fare too badly.
Chances - 4.5/5
Kings XI Punjab are another top side. Yuvraj, Katich, Marsh, Hopes, Bopara and the Sri Lankan duo seem very reliable. They have a fine bowling attach too with Pathan, Sreesanth, Powar, Chawla all likely to play most games and that makes this side purely international.
Chances - 4/5
Mumbai Indians. And IMHO, they seem rather weak on paper compared to Delhi, Bangalore, Punjab, Kolkata. Obviously, they’ll hope Tendulkar, Jayasuriya, Zaheer, Harbhajan, Dhawan, Duminy, Mills, Ashraful are available throughout and that’ll give them a good chance. But importantly, if Bravo and Malinga are fit and available, they could be dark horses to reach the final four, at least.
Chances - 3/5
TOP FOUR (in no order):
DELHI DAREDEVILS
CHENNAI SUPER KINGS
KINGS XI PUNJAB
KOLKATA KNIGHTRIDERS
BOTTOM FOUR (in the order I predict):

The fighters…
It’s back. Bigger and even more bountiful. The heady cocktail of cricket, big money and glamour that made the Indian Premier League such a huge hit in its inaugural season resumed on Friday with an auction that relegated last year’s eye-popping figures to instant history.
The general economic outlook may be none too bright, but IPL pay packages are still surging like a team’s score during a frenzied powerplay.
The big question when the action kicked off was whether M S Dhoni’s record fee of $1.5 million would survive the day. It didn’t last even a few hours.
England’s Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff both clocked $1.55 million, surpassing Dhoni to be the costliest players of the tournament.
Pietersen had a reserve price of $1.35 million and Team Bangalore had made no bones about their determination to get him.
For a while, Vijay Mallya encountered competition from Team Mumbai and Team Mohali. But they soon backed out. Mallya later said he would have bid even more if required, not surprising when one considers that his team last year was mocked for having an excellent batting line-up—for Tests.
Flintoff, with a base price of $950,000, too proved to be hot property with teams desperate for his all-round skills. Mumbai , Mohali and Chennai fought a pitched battle for him, with bids often increasing by $25,000 at one go. Chennai finally bagged him for $1.55 million.
Team Mumbai made the third most expensive acquisition of the day, forking out $950,000 for 24-year-old Jean Paul Duminy, who made such a huge impact during South Africa’s recent triumphs over Australia.
Duminy began with a base price of $300,000 but with Team Mohali, Team Kolkata and Team Jaipur all pitching for him, he finally cost Team Mumbai almost thrice that figure.
Mumbai also picked up Bangladesh skipper Mohd Ashraful for $75,000 after he initially failed to find any takers.
Others weren’t so lucky, with many of the players listed for auction remaining unsold. Clearly, while the franchisees didn’t mind spending top dollar for players crucial to their plans, they were very choosy about whom they spent their money on. Still, there were quite a few surprises.
Mashrafe Mortaza, the right-arm medium-pacer from Bangladesh, began with a base price of $50,000 and wound up with $600,000 as Kolkata and Mohali went head-to-head for him in one of the most exciting contests of the day.
There was further buzz as Team Jaipur, the defending champions, picked up Shaun Tait for $375,000. On his day, Tait can be devastating. But he has also frequentlyand spectacularlygone off the boil.
Team Jaipur captain Shane Warne will be looking to Tait to make the same impact as Sohail Tanvir did last year. It remains to be seen if they share more than just initials.

Proxim’s WiMAX Provides Wireless Backhaul for Turkey’s Largest Video Surveillance Network
Turkey’s Second Largest Tourist City Protects Tourists, Locals and Port with Ubiquitous Video Surveillance
Silicon Valley, February 19, 2009 – Proxim Wireless Corporation (NASDAQ: PRXM), a leading provider of end-to-end broadband wireless systems that deliver the quadruple play, today announced that it has provided the wireless backhaul for Turkey’s largest video surveillance network in the port city of Bodrum. Bodrum is Turkey’s second largest tourist town, with a peak tourist population of over 1.5 million people during the summer months. To ensure the protection of both tourists and locals alike, as well as the port itself, the Bodrum Police Department commissioned the construction of a city-wide wireless video surveillance network, utilizing Proxim’s Tsunami™ MP.16 3500 licensed band WiMAX radios as the wireless backhaul to connect over 70 video cameras.
This deployment is a direct result of an initiative by Turkey’s Department of the Interior to roll out video surveillance across the entire country. Prior to deploying Proxim’s...

The old ...
In an industry where the focus is on uncovering the next young superstar, Lazio goalkeeper Ballotta put in a case for the old guard on the opening night of the UEFA Champions League. When he took the field against Olympiacos CFP on Matchday 1 he became the oldest player to compete in the group stage, aged 43 years and 168 days. "I'm not the oldest, but the most experienced," joked Ballotta, who would play in all six of Lazio's group games.
... and the new
Olympique Lyonnais pair Karim Benzema, 19, and Hatem Ben Arfa, 20, have featured in the competition before but came of age this term. Benzema's superb late strike to complete Lyon's victory at Rangers FC on Matchday 6, which ensured their place in the knockout phase, was the latest example of why the future of French football looks so bright. Benzema turns 20 on 19 December, when he will graduate from the competition's exclusive teenagers' club which boasts the likes of Arsenal's Theo Walcott, 18, and Nicolas Bendtner, 19, as valued members. Like Bendtner, FC Barcelona's 18-year-old Giovani Dos Santos was among the goals on Matchday 6. Other teenagers to impress were Ivan Rakitić at FC Schalke 04, Manchester United FC's Anderson and Diego Capel at Sevilla FC, all of whom are 19. Most wide-eyed of all, though, was 17-year-old FC Barcelona prodigy Bojan Krkić. "It's incredible," he said. "Three and a half months ago I was just another fan in the stands. I'm living a dream. I can't believe it yet."
Firsts
It has been a season of firsts for a number of sides in the UEFA Champions League. Sevilla FC and Slavia Praha both made their debuts in the group stage, reaching the knockout round and the UEFA Cup respectively. Fenerbahçe SK progressed beyond the group stage for the first time in five attempts and it was third time lucky for FC Schalke 04.
Through at last
At the ninth time of asking Olympiacos finally reached the knockout rounds again, banishing the demons of a nearly a decade of underachievement in the process. A first away win in 32 attempts at Werder Bremen on Matchday 2 hinted at things to come, but the real party was saved for the rematch against the German side on the final matchday when a 3-0 victory confirmed their progress. "The team have a changed attitude, they are now psychologically strong and it shows," coach Panagiotis Lemonis said. "For me, the most rewarding feeling is to know that right now our fans are on the streets of Piraeus celebrating our qualification."
Surprise, surprise
Though by and large the usual suspects will be taking their place in the last 16, the big guns have not had things all their own way. Rosenborg BK were unfortunate not to progress after drawing away to Chelsea FC and twice beating Valencia CF, while Mathieu Valbuena's winner at Anfield will live long in the memory of Olympique de Marseille supporters. There were also great wins for Rangers at Lyon, Fenerbahçe at home to FC Internazionale Milano and Celtic over holders AC Milan.
Most improved
Lyon and Liverpool both completed remarkable revivals to qualify after dire starts. Lyon lost both their opening games before stepping up a gear, while 2007 finalists Liverpool performed their own version of Jekyll and Hyde in Group A. After giving their rivals a head start in the section, Liverpool hit eight past Beşiktaş and four beyond both FC Porto and Marseille to advance. "I would say it was a perfect night," coach Rafael Benítez said after victory at the Vélodrome, before correcting himself: "... almost perfect, you always have things to improve."

BARCELONA--Verizon Communications' chief technology officer dished out details Wednesday on the company's soon-to-be-built 4G wireless network that's set to go live in 2010.
Verizon will begin testing the service this year and launch it commercially in at least 25 to 30 markets in the U.S. in 2010, CTO Dick Lynch said during an interview with CNET News after his keynote speech Wednesday at the 2009 GSMA Mobile World Congress here.
"We are modeling the roll-out after our EV-DO deployment. So we expect to get to about the same level in the first year of deploying LTE that we got with EV-DO, which is about 25 or 30 markets. That is probably a reasonable estimate," he said, referring to the Long Term Evolution network.
Verizon will continue to build out the 4G wireless network and expects to blanket the continental U.S. and Hawaii with the new wireless network by 2015.
The network will use 700MHz wireless spectrum that Verizon acquired in the Federal Communications Commission's auction last year. The company announced in 2007 that it planned to use a technology call Long Term Evolution to build its next-generation wireless networks.
Several GSM operators around the world have also announced plans to use LTE, which means that Verizon 4G wireless subscribers will eventually be able to roam globally.
Verizon has been testing the service in several areas in the U.S. including Minneapolis, Columbus, Ohio, and northern New Jersey. It's also been working with Vodafone (Verizon Wireless' co-parent) and China Mobile to test deployments in other parts of the world, including Budapest, Hungary, Dusseldorf, Germany, and Madrid, Lynch said.
The wireless spectrum that will be used to build the new network will be fully available in June after all U.S. broadcasters finish transitioning to digital TV signals. Congress recently pushed back the deadline to switch to digital TV broadcast from this week to June.
Download speeds
In its initial trials, Verizon says that it has demonstrated peak download speeds of around 50Mbps to 60Mbps. Average download speeds are likely to be a lot lower since the wireless spectrum is a shared medium. Still, the network will be much faster than the average speed of Verizon's 3G EV-DO service, which typically tops out at 400Kbps to 700Kbps.
Lynch also announced major equipment suppliers that will build the new network. Telecom equipment makers Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent, and Starent Networks will be used for the wireless and Internet infrastructure gear. Products from Alcatel-Lucent and Nokia Siemens will help provide the service layer of the network.
Lynch said during the interview that Verizon Wireless still has plenty of headroom left with its 3G technology but that in the not-too-distant future consumers are likely to demand higher-speed wireless connections. Lynch wants Verizon to be ready for that.
Demand will likely come from consumers who want to attach a slew of consumer electronics and other devices to the Internet wirelessly, he said. E-readers are good examples of devices that will be connected wirelessly and will drive demand for higher bandwidth.
Wireless connectivity to the Internet is also expected to be built into other products, such as digital cameras and even medical devices.
"In the not-so-distant-future, any and all devices will have LTE embedded in them," Lynch said during his speech. "We are seeing a new generation of converged devices that will let people do a lot more than we've seen so far."
More independence for customers?
One potential problem Verizon could face as it rolls out this new network has to do with customer support. During the Q&A section of the keynote, moderator Andy Zimmerman of Accenture asked Lynch how Verizon plans to deal with a likely deluge of customer support questions when the company allows people to use any device on the LTE network. Lynch essentially put the onus back on the consumer. He said that the wireless broadband market will evolve to be more like the PC market and that customers will expect to troubleshoot more of their own problems--rather than walking into a Verizon Wireless store or calling customer support like they do today to fix problems.
"Consumers will have to take more responsibility" for troubleshooting, he said. "It's a harsh message, but a factual message."
To some extent, Lynch might be right. Consumers may realize that a Verizon customer support representative won't be able to tell them how to fix their digital camera or their network-connected heart monitor. But I suspect customers will still expect a high level of support from Verizon, which will be providing the network connectivity.
After all, in the fixed broadband market, I don't call Dell or Microsoft when my home PC isn't connecting to the Internet. But I do call Time Warner Cable, my broadband provider.
Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs, who recently extended his contract by a year with the Red Devils, is pleased with his form and says he is enjoying his football more then ever.
His new contract will keep him at Old Trafford until he is nearly 37 years old, and with another sterling performance in United's FA Cup hammering of Derby County, he could prove a vital player in their quest for more trophies this season.
With many sharing the opinion that Giggs is playing better then ever, the Welshman says he has no secrets on how he has prolonged his career for so many years.
"It is all about common sense," he said.
"I have to look after myself and get enough rest. I also have to make sure my attitude and preparation for games is right.
"For many years now, I have said you look to get better and improve your game. I have always tried to do that and adapt to different situations.
"I have played midfield and up front when I was younger. None of it is alien to me because I have done it before."
"I am certainly enjoying my football more than ever. It is for other people to judge whether I am playing as well as I have ever done.
"But I am playing quite regularly and the team are playing well, which is what we want."
United play their game in hand against Fulham on Wednesday, with the return of Wayne Rooney scheduled for either the mid-week fixture or Saturday's clash with Blackburn Rovers. Should the Red Devils take three points at Fulham, they will soar five points clear of second placed Liverpool on the Barclays Premier League table.
With dozens of teammates standing nearby and roughly 200 reporters watching, Rodriguez said Tuesday that he and a cousin had obtained the drugs in the Dominican Republic and injected them for an energy boost.
"My mistake was because I was immature and I was stupid," Rodriguez said. "I blame myself. For a week here, I kept looking for people to blame, and I keep looking at myself."
In his interview last week, which followed the revelation by Sports Illustrated that he tested positive for a banned substance in 2003, Rodriguez said he used illegal drugs from 2001 to 2003 but did not know what he took. On Tuesday, he identified the drug as "boli" but did not name the cousin.
"I knew we weren't taking Tic Tacs," Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez said he injected himself with the drug twice a month for six months each year, yet said he did not know if he was using it properly or whether it was safe. Rodriguez, who was 25 in 2001 and had already signed a 10-year contract for $252 million, repeatedly said he was young at the time.
"It goes back to being young and being curious," Rodriguez said. "I realized after my neck injury in '03 that I was being silly and irresponsible and I decided to stop. And I was a young guy."
Rodriguez began the news conference by reading a prepared statement and took questions for about 30 minutes. He paused for 38 seconds near the start when he tried to address his teammates, from stars like Derek Jeter to rookies like Phil Coke. "Thank you," Rodriguez finally said.
"I saw tears in his eyes," said the Yankees manager, Joe Girardi, who sat at a table with the general manager, Brian Cashman, and Rodriguez. "I thought he was disappointed that it's come to this. For him to look over and see his teammates, he was moved. I think he really felt like they were part of his family."
The Yankees are tied to Rodriguez through 2017, after signing him to a 10-year, $275 million contract in December 2007. Rodriguez has stressed that he has been clean since joining the Yankees in 2004, and said he had never taken human growth hormone.
He did admit to using an over-the-counter supplement called Ripped Fuel when he played for the Seattle Mariners, his team from 1994 through 2000. Ripped Fuel contained the substance ephedra, which increases energy and burns fat.
The U.S. government banned the over-the-counter sale of ephedra in 2004. Major League Baseball added it to its list of banned drugs in 2005 and began testing for it a year later, along with other stimulants.
It is not clear what substance Rodriguez was referring to when he said that he had used the drug "known on the streets as 'boli' or 'bollee."' Rodriguez said his cousin bought the drug legally in the Dominican Republic.
"I've never heard of this name for a drug," Gary Wadler, an internist and member of the World Anti-Doping Agency, said in a telephone interview. "It seems to me that it sounds like it could be Primobolan."
SI.com, which first reported 10 days ago that Rodriguez tested positive in 2003, said that testosterone and the anabolic steroid Primobolan were found in his urine sample.
Rodriguez said he was reckless with how he took the drug, saying he consulted no one besides his cousin and did not even know if he derived an edge.
"I'm not sure what the benefit was," he said. "I will say this: When you take any substance, especially in baseball, it's half mental and half physical. If you take this glass of water and say you're going to be a better baseball player, if you believe it, you probably will be. I certainly felt more energy, but it's hard to say."
Rodriguez pledged to his teammates that they would have "the best season of our lives." But the issue of his steroid use, and the verbal abuse he could take from fans, will be a sobering backdrop.
"This thing is not dying," Cashman said. "The shelf life of this is a lot longer. The story itself will follow him for quite some time."
Rodriguez employs a cadre of image consultants. One of his newest was nearby on Tuesday. Ben Porritt, a former spokesman for John McCain's presidential campaign and a partner in the crisis-management firm Outside Eyes, sat off camera as Rodriguez explained and apologized. "I am here to take my medicine," Rodriguez said.
ROME: Italy's traditional season opener, the Supercup, will be held in Beijing this year.
The Italian league on Monday signed a deal with the Beijing Football Association to have the match played at the Chinese capital in August.
The Supercup pits the previous season's league champion against the winner of the Italian Cup. Last year, AS Roma beat Inter Milan 1-0 to win the trophy.
The Gazzetta dello Sport daily reported that Chinese organizers would pay $3.19 million to the Italian league as well as all the teams' expenses.
The league declined to confirm the report, saying that details, including the date and venue of the match, will be given at a news conference next month.
